Situation/Introduction

Digitalization and the pandemic show how important the social environment and the quality of relationships are for our well-being. Because in both cases we are facing changes, both in the way we work together and in the way we live together. However, the sense of community is central to us. It stems from the fulfillment of our basic psychological need for attachment and belonging. Part of self-care, therefore, is being part of a group and feeling connected to other people. We can also achieve this despite distance, but just a little differently than we have been used to.

CyberSecurity – introducing defense fundamentals and why the human factor can be a chance of success besides being the #1 error source

Situation/Introduction

With exponential increasing connectivity and mobility, such as smart devices, remote controls and remote work, challenges for cybersecurity are growing, while attacks are skyrocketing. Understanding attacks and adversaries is important, although the tremendous number of incidents globally in all industries can be overwhelming and cause a feeling of incapability to act.

Therefore, this session will focus on defense mechanism. Understanding basic concepts of cybersecurity, that enable organizations of all sized and employees in all positions to promote and actively participate in a culture of cybersecurity.

Easy applicable tools and knowledge bases will be provided to participants, allowing them to become part of the discussion.

Pauline List studied social anthropology and economics at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. Her focus on transnational communication brought her to the international context and since moving to her new home of choice Israel 4 years ago, she is passionate about cybersecurity.

From the vendors’ perspective, support and project development for IT security solutions for the DACH region was her first focus in a customer facing role, before immersing into the world of startups, new technologies and cyber deception at TrapX Security.

After HerCareer fell victim to the pandemic last year, the time had finally come on September 16th   and 17th. net4tec happily joined the leading fair for female career planning, that opened its doors with more than 230 exhibitors and 450 speakers to support woman’s careers under the motto – “Behind every woman is an army of women hyping her up.”.

For us this was the first opportunity to meet our members, interested parties and partners once again in person after 18 months. We eagerly prepared the fair behind the scenes, to welcome our visitors appropriately at our booth and to go to the next level by launching our PIONEER community of woMen and carry out our strong mission:

“Rock” the STEM world and make it more colorful by lifting female careers and shaping a new face of leadership with the power of community. Realize your full potential

The first in person event from our network was most expected and celebrated with lots of inspiration and full of opportunities. Coincidentally, the fair collided with our usual 60 minute session, which we offer every two weeks from our network for our network. So, we took the chance and started the day with a live broadcast of the session about systemic leadership lead by our role model Linda Oldenburg. Attendees could get the feeling of having been at the fair themselves.

During the fair we met friends, members, companies, and business partners as well as completely new people in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss how we can put our new mission to life with the power of community. Many memories have been created throughout great conversations about:

  • Diversity
  • How we can revolutionize the STEM world
  • How we can develop a new understanding of leadership
  • How we can redefine career
  • How to disrupt the status quo and move forward together
  • How to build allies with men we need, to bring woman forward.

Besides engaging at our booth, we offered special meetups with our net4tec members: 

Belen Romero, (Sustainability & Energy Consultancy, Ambassador net4tec Munich) invited to discuss “How do we bring value to business? A guideline towards sustainable transformation” where she provided practical know-how about sustainability.

Alina Popa, (Global Program Manager – Client Success Strategy @ Pegasystems Inc., Ambassador net4tec Munich) presented “What we can learn from Customer Success and how we can apply this to accelerate our career?” and taught participants about Customer Success / Roles and responsibilities of the Customer Success Manager role in the IT Industry.

Mariya Davydenko (Business Development Director @Ciklum, Ambassador net4tec Stuttgart) talked on the topic “Transformation in automotive, from manufacturer to service provider – a challenge for OEMs, an opportunity for your career”. She lead a discussion about the industry development, career opportunities and required skills.

Begonia Merayo finally enriched the fair with her panel of the Working Moms e.V. and attracted a variety of women and men to our booth. Read on for her own impressions and personal highlights from net4tec @herCareer on LinkedIn.

Every format engaged more visitors, started cool exchange, and offered great possibilities for fresh networking.  All in all, you could feel the indescribable spirit and exciting energy. The overwhelming feedback we received shows that it was a super successful event for visitors and exhibitors alike.

Situation/Introduction

Confidence in people’s abilities has been largely determined by testimonials and résumés, and the American dream of making it from the bottom up without a degree was rather the exception. Especially in more technical professions, women with or without university background were rarely given a lateral entry. However, demographic change and the shortage of skilled workers are unstoppable, and companies are slowly realizing this. With “New Work” the time has finally come for career changers, just like 30 years ago when the Internet conquered the world, diversity and lifelong learning are becoming more and more important in recruiting for companies today.

I will take you on a journey back in time 20 years as a career changer in IT and show you what was possible back then under difficult conditions and what will hopefully become easier today on the way to a digital age in which lifelong learning, diversity and the right mindset is more important than just a good university degree.

About the Speaker

Yvonne Schulist has been working as an IT-Consultant and Business Consultant for more than 20 years. She started her career as project assistant in a start-up in Stuttgart in 1999 without university degree only with an apprentice ship as career changer. Later she started studies in sociology and psychology and business informatics and completed her MBA in Leadership & Management in addition to her job and family.

Today Yvonne works as Founder & Company Lead at New Work Unicorns. She has developed a culture-based job matching process to help people find a corporate culture that fits to their needs.

Situation/Introduction

In unseren immer komplexeren und sich ständig verändernden Arbeits- und Lebenswelten ist Selbstführung eine unverzichtbare Schlüsselkompetenz. Insbesondere für Führungskräfte ist sie ein wegweisender „Kompass“, um sich selbst und Mitarbeitende sicher und zielgerichtet durch das (Berufs-)Leben zu navigieren.

Wer sich selbst führen kann, handelt eigenverantwortlich, verfügt über eine bewusste und positive Wahrnehmung seiner eigenen Ressourcen, setzt sich Ziele und überprüft regelmäßig selbstkritisch den eingeschlagenen Weg. Insofern ist Selbstführung nicht ausschließlich auf Führungskräfte und berufliche Situationen begrenzt, sondern in allen Lebensbereichen für jeden Menschen hilfreich, um bewusst entscheiden und handeln zu können. Gerlinde ist als Mentorin für weibliche Nachwuchsführungskräfte in ihrer Organisation tätig und arbeitet nebenberuflich als Coach und Trainerin. Sie ist außerdem Mitgründerin von „GeNiCo – authentisch.weiblich.führen“ und bietet gemeinsam mit ihren beiden Business-Partnerinnen Mentoring-Programme für weibliche Führungskräfte an.

“Get off the bench and start playing the game”

Situation/Introduction

When I was 19 years old and had just started my Chemistry degree, I was ask by one of my male fellow students why I was working so hart? His reason: As soon as I was married I would become a stay at home wife. That was not in the 1950’s or 1960’s. That was 1990.

When I was pregnant with my first daughter, my manager told me that he was upset because he had to find a replacement for me. His reason: As soon as I was having my baby, I would be a stay at home mum. That was not in the 1950’s or 1960’s. That was 2005.

15 years between those two events. Not much had changed in the thinking of my male counter parts. I have made it my mission to empower women to reach their full potential, whatever it might be: as the CEO of a large cooperation, an entrepreneur or an employee who is thriving for more than just the nine to five job.

Our world of work is changing driven by digitalisation, uncertainty, complexity, sustainability and individualisation and more facts which means that we must pay more attention to people and their needs, especially in companies.

This is a perfect surrounding for women to show their strengths, such as empathy, communication, networking, cultivating relationships, flexibility, the participatory idea.

Studies have shown that diversity leads to better company results. In other words, ideal framework conditions for women as co-creators of innovation, especially since more flexible working models make it easier balance work and life, a challenge that we women still have to face.

“Unconscious Biases or the World in My Head”

Situation/Introduction

Miriam has been and is working as a team leader in research and development for multiple years in different companies. Within these positions she had been facing different, and sometimes difficult situations based on unconscious biases. Always asking herself how to overcome and getting aware of those, she participated in trainings about ‘diversity’. These trainings opened her eyes much wider than before and deepened the interest into unconscious biases.

Today Miriam likes to share these learnings with the net4tec network and participants to create ‘aha’-moments and supporting self reflection.

About the speaker

After studying chemistry Miriam followed the red line towards battery development for electromobility from preparing her PhD-thesis on. Passing different job positions which were always linked to technical topics of material and product development, she continuously build up her knowledge starting from project leadership to a team lead and to being a sub-department leader today.

Miriam is one of net4tec’s role models and represents that there is always an opportunity to develop, especially within a great network like net4tec.
