Coffee, Chat & Learn with Claudia Kessler

About the speaker

A life dedicated to spaceflight- fascinated by the Moon landing in 1969, the then four-year-old Claudia decides that one day she too will fly into space!

Claudia is an entrepreneur and visionary. She founded Astronautin GmbH in April 2017 to ensure the female future of (traditionally “manned”) astronautical space travel. Claudia Kessler has a clear goal: to get the first German woman into space by 2021. The new female astronaut will become an inspiration to encourage young women into technology professions.

With Astronautin GmbH, Claudia is one of the few female founders in the high-tech industry to create a space start-up that makes engaging in space activities accessible to everyone. Astronautin GmbH makes it possible to transfer space experiences into everyday life on Earth. From space events to astronaut training and analogue missions, parabolic flights plus suborbital flights, all the way through to astronaut space missions, every space experience is offered by Astronautin GmbH.

Claudia Kessler’s goal is not only to bring the first German woman into space, but above all to make women stronger in order to help position them at the top of society and the working economy. She inspires audiences in empowerment workshops with elements from astronaut training, personal coaching, and inspirational public speaking.

Being one of the few female executives in space, Claudia is constantly working to ensure more participation, because women attract women! She also promotes the international careers of female specialists and managers in the Women in Aerospace Europe (WIA-E) network, which she founded across Europe in 2009. The network today has more than 500 members across 12 European countries. In addition, she is one of the few women to be a member of the Senate of the German Aerospace Society (DGLR) and the International Aeronautical Academy (IAA).

As CEO of HE Space from 2004 to 2018, a personnel service provider specializing in space professionals, Claudia achieved a 55% representation of women among her 200 technical employees. The Family-Friendly certificate, the Diversity Charter, and the Diversity Personality of the Year 2016 awards are just a few examples of the results of her numerous campaigns to improve the position of women in technical professions who are also balancing work and family.

Claudia Kessler is a qualified aerospace engineer, is the holder of an MBA, and has more than 30 years of experience in the international space industry.

Situation/Introduction

Astronauts are per definition very courageous and curious – which for me goes always hand in hand! They want to understand what is out there. They feel very much part of the universe and not only as a citizen of a country, a continent, but of a planet!

As an astronaut you will choose your own guiding star, work to reach it, and never lose sight of it.

Successful astronauts also need to be able to show cultural competency (recognizing that everyone’s contribution has value, no matter how unfamiliar), good self-care and team-care, and excellent communication skills in variety of situations.”

Key Learnings

Many of the characteristics of astronauts can also be applied to a successful career.

Many executives are wondering how they can design an appropriate year review and closing in 2020. A special year like 2020 requires a special kind of annual review to celebrate the new experiences we have shared.

The classic Christmas Celebration will probably not take place this year.

At the same time we all dream of it: once again informal contact and exchange with colleagues – after months of work at a distance.

Join this open morning session and brainstorm together!

Coffee, Chat & Learn with Svenja Lassen

Situation/Introduction

Your LinkedIn Profile is in many cases the most important aspect of your professional presence online. You can use LinkedIn to connect with people in your network, and recruiters often use it to find you when they are sourcing candidates.

Your profile includes details about your job qualifications, employment history, education, skills, and experience. To get the most out of LinkedIn, it’s important to make your LinkedIn profile as comprehensive and compelling as possible.

Also, your LinkedIn profile can increase your visibility online and help you build a professional brand that showcases your background to prospective employers.

Learn in this session about tips to make your LinkedIn profile stand out from the crowd.

Key Learnings

Women are unfortunately still clearly outnumbered in the start-up landscape: there are only 16% female founders and even fewer female investors (8%). Yet diversity is always an important key to economic success. In order to sustainably increase the proportion of women in these areas, Svenja Lassen has founded an investor network, in which she imparts knowledge on the topic of investments and connects interested women with experienced business angels and experts.

Key Take Aways

  • Startup investment is possible from as little as 10,000 euros
  • No previous knowledge is required, only the interest and desire to get involved
  • Passing on one’s own knowledge from other sectors is a
  • By participating in start-ups, one can specifically promote the innovations, companies, structures and products that one would like to see in the economy in the future – and thus exert social influence

About the Speaker – Svenja Lassen

As Managing Director, Svenja Lassen has been responsible for the development of the primeCROWD start-up investor network in Germany for the past two years. In addition to the desire to promote innovation, her main concern is to inform more women about the topic of start-up investment and to inspire them for the possibilities of this influence – also in order to increase the number of female start-ups and impact investments. To this end, she conducted a study in Q1/2020 with the Chair of Entrepreneurship at the IUBH on the topic of ‘female business angels in Germany’, based on the results of which she created her own network and exclusive offers for female investors.

The trained journalist is a certified business coach, experienced moderator, pitch trainer and thoroughbred networker. She loves to bring together people who benefit from each other and to support them in their challenges. She has always been interested in the topic of female empowerment – whether as senior editor of COSMOPOLITAN, where she was responsible for the business section and the special issue of cosmo@work, and has written about female entrepreneurs. Or as the initiator of the further education platform Supporther-Academy (www.supporther.de), which she accompanies as a consultant for Bauer Verlag, where she moderates workshops.

How to communicate your thoughts with clarity and confidence

How many times we face situations where what we say is not received the way we had intended to? That is not only frustrating but can also lead to different levels of missunderstandings and problems depending on the context.

And, considering the global world we live in, when we are in a multicultural environment, we need to be extra attentive before expressing our ideas, to make sure our audience can follow our thoughts and feel comfortable to engage and interact with us, the presenters.

Every time we are speaking to someone or a group of people, we have the opportunity to position ourselves as experts by sharing our knowledge, but also, and very importantly, to create a positive impact in people’s lives with our message.

Done well, every talk and presentation can become agents of transformation by movingpeople into action.

In this talk, Tulia will share with you some fundamentals you have to be aware of in order to make sure your message is well-understood and welcome.

This is what we will discuss:• What is the biggest mistake most people make when presenting, which is one of the reasons for their message not getting across effectively• Why the audience (not you) is the hero in your story and why sharing stories is important• The three secrets to craft a message which will land well and stick in people’s mind

Key Take Aways

After this talk the participants will:

  • Understand why “one size fits all” doesn’t work when giving a presentation or talk
  • Become story-collectors
  • Be able to define what to add, and what to avoid, when preparing a presentation
